First-Time Parent? Discover How ₱59 a Day Can Help Protect Your Child’s Future

10 September 2026 | 4 Min Read

As many experienced parents would say, there are countless “firsts” that come with raising a child: the first time you hear your child say “Ma” or “Pa,” the first time your toddler learns to walk, and the first day your child starts school.

And when it comes to education, every parent wants nothing more than to give their children the brightest future possible. This is why we often put high value on learning and regard it as the “tanging kayamanan na hindi mananakaw ninoman.” However, when you begin to consider the financial demands it entails, the pressure can feel overwhelming.

After all, providing quality education for your child is not a one-time responsibility. It is a long-term commitment that requires continuous planning, support, and dedication. This is why it is especially important for first-time parents to be both emotionally and financially prepared to ensure that those plans can continue even if life doesn't go according to what you've hoped for.

The reality about tuition fees in the Philippines

Truth be told, education in the Philippines comes at a significant cost. With the K–12 curriculum, the previous 10-year basic education program was extended to a total of 13 years of schooling from kindergarten to senior high school. To give you a better idea, here is a breakdown of tuition costs in the Philippines:

In the early years, grade school education in private institutions can cost around ₱30,000 to ₱100,000 annually, while high school and senior high school tuition typically range from ₱50,000 to ₱150,000 per year. Public schools offer free education, thanks to the Free Public Secondary Education Act, but parents must still budget for additional expenses such as books, uniforms, transportation, and other school essentials.

However, the real financial challenge begins when a child enters college. For parents aiming to enroll their children in the country’s top universities, preparation and awareness are key. While some universities offer full tuition subsidies such as the University of the Philippines under the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act, private universities may come with significant tuition fees.

For example, Ateneo de Manila University has an estimated annual tuition reaching around ₱256,000 in 2025. De La Salle University follows, with costs ranging from ₱204,000 to ₱243,000 per year while the University of Santo Tomas ranges from ₱106,000 to ₱158,000.

However, these figures alone do not provide the full picture. One key factor to consider is inflation, which drives the cost of goods and services higher over time. Tuition fees, for example, are projected to increase by around 3% to 7% annually. At a 7% annual increase, tuition at Ateneo de Manila University could reach approximately ₱866,000, while De La Salle University could rise to about ₱755,000 by 2044. As a first-time parent, this gives you an idea on how much you may need to prepare for in the long term to support your child’s lifelong learning journey.

The importance of protecting your child’s education

From a child’s first day in school to their journey toward higher education, the costs can be significant and continue to rise over time. That is why education should be viewed as a bridge to your child’s future and not just a series of tuition payments made each year. It is a promise you make to them to support their goals, nurture their potential, and provide them with opportunities that can help shape their being.

Yet even the most well-prepared plans can be disrupted by life’s unexpected challenges. A sudden illness, accident, or medical emergency can quickly consume funds that were carefully set aside for your child’s education. When this happens, parents may be forced to choose between addressing immediate financial needs and preserving their child's future dreams.

This is why having financial protection in place is so important. And this is where life insurance can make a difference. Today, many life insurance plans are more affordable than ever. If you are a 30-year-old mom, for as little as ₱59 a day, you can begin building a financial safety net for your family’s future. While ₱59 may seem like a small amount, it can go a long way with valuable coverage for you in case of accidents and critical illnesses. More importantly, if the unexpected happens and you are no longer there to provide for your family, the insurance lump-sum benefit can help secure the funds needed to support your child's education and future aspirations.
