AXA Philippines, DepEd Manila to promote ocean protection in schools

AXA Philippines, one of the country's leading insurance providers, recently signed a memorandum of understanding to renew its partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) Manila to boost environmental awareness, as well as financial literacy, among Filipinos for a better future. Through the partnership, AXA Philippines will provide ocean literacy modules for teachers and students from grades 1 to 6 in Manila as part of the company’s Ocean Education program.

“We are grateful for DepEd’s continuous partnership for our programs on sustainability. This year, we are very pleased to partner again with public schools in Manila to help increase students' interest in science and climate change,” said Jaspreet Kakar, AXA Philippines Chief Human Resource Officer. “We hope that in providing these teaching resources, the students could be part of 9 million children worldwide so far who have benefited from AXA’s Ocean Education program,” he added.

AXA Ocean Education is a leading provider and innovator of resources for increasing ocean literacy. It’s science- and geography-themed lessons expose students aged 7-16 to the vital role that the ocean plays in our lives and the threats they face. The program also has free teaching resources that include lesson plans, slideshows, student activities, and teacher guidance. AXA Ocean Education’s goal is to reach 10 million children through expanding to new geographies and to new audiences.

(Our initiatives with our partners should translate to our desired learning outcomes. This is why these partnerships are a big step for us. What we thought was impossible are now achievable together with our partners.)”

Aside from the Ocean Education program, AXA Philippines also provides DepEd with financial literacy seminars for teachers, a savings program for students, and a COVID-19 awareness campaign, to help educate more Filipinos in protecting their health and finances.
